PRODUCT CASE STUDY
Homelab Control
A private operations dashboard connecting self-hosted products, service health, home automation and agent tools.
- Role
- Infrastructure architecture, dashboard engineering and operations
- For
- Builders operating self-hosted products and household services

The user problem
Self-hosting creates a growing collection of services, consoles and recovery procedures. A useful control surface helps the operator find a service, understand its condition and choose the right next step.
Product decisions
The dashboard brings service inventory, periodic status checks, runbooks, home automation and agent entry points into one place. Public products remain separate from the private operational controls.
Engineering trade-offs
Proxmox containers separate workloads. A lightweight web dashboard and scheduled probes provide an approachable operational view. Cloudflare Access protects remote dashboard access. Status probes indicate reachability; they do not establish application correctness or an availability SLA.
What exists today
On 5 October 2026, read-only inspection confirmed running workloads on two Proxmox hosts, an accessible internal dashboard and an active status-probe timer. The remote dashboard presented a Cloudflare Access login. This case uses an illustrative diagram; private addresses, credentials, household data and control links are omitted. Backup restoration and disaster recovery were not exercised during the inspection.
Evidence & next steps
Implementation evidence is separate from measured user or business outcomes. Next: validate the complete user journey and its results.
